At GYG, we know about real food and real people! Our Restaurant General Manager in Brisbane Santiago Garcia brings his knowledge of both into his every day. His enthusiastic attitude for all things GYG combined with his drive for running a restaurant and top-tier teams makes Santiago a team fave.
After completing an engineering degree in Colombia, Santiago moved to Australia where he started working in hospitality in a variety of venues in Brisbane including fine dining, breweries and even Italian and Mexican restaurants.
That’s when he landed at GYG! That’s right! While you may not immediately think of how engineering can lead to working at GYG, Santiago proves that having the perfect mix of problem-solving skills and analytical expertise makes for a fantastic leader! Now Santiago oversees several restaurants in the Brisbane area including Southbank and Wintergarden – come say hi!

After talking to Santiago for just a few minutes, you will feel the drive and tenacious energy he exudes! He claims this is because of how much GYG believes their staff, no matter their title.

To build the best teams within his restaurants, Santiago knows that he has to lead with empathy and compassion and has to instil energy and enthusiasm within the crew to make them love coming to their jobs as much as he does every day!
