It’s clear that at GYG we’re obsessed with our food and our people, but something behind the scenes we’ve been passionate about for the last 15 years is our charity partner, Misión México.
On 12 October, following GYG’s jam-packed Experience Summit, we hosted Misión Posible VIII, our eighth annual fundraising event (and party of the year) that raises money for Misión México!
Since 2008, GYG has proudly supported Misión México, an organisation founded by two incredible Aussies, Pam and Alan Skuse. In 2000, Pam and Alan left their home in Australia to volunteer at a children’s home in Tapachula, Mexico for one year. After the home suddenly closed, the Skuses made the life-changing decision to stay in Mexico and care for the remaining children at the refuge full-time. From there, Misión México was born with the dream of creating a loving, family environment with access to education for the youth under their care.
With the help from GYG, Misión México has gotten the opportunity to extend its impact, giving support to build the Misión Surf Hotel and most recently, providing funds to help launch a community soup kitchen.
The work that Mision Mexico continues to do has changed the lives of hundreds of childre and at this year’s Misión Posible event, guests saw this for themselves. We heard from Misión México’s Director, Melissa Biggerstaff, and Katherine Alvayero, who was part of the refuge. Melissa’s tireless work to improve the lives of the Misión México children was demonstrated through Katherine’s amazing story of the opportunities Misión México gave her- she now is a GP in underprivileged communities!
With a lively auction that included one-of-a-kind artworks created by Misión México kids and some epic raffle prizes, the Misión Posible party was in full swing! And of course, no party is complete without GYG burritos handed out as guests headed home!
With the help of special donors, GYG raised over 700k to help the efforts of Misión México! We can’t even begin to describe the generosity GYG witnessed in the lead-up to Misión Posible and at the event.
